Prof. Dr. Bernd Skiera

Bernd Skiera is a full professor of electronic commerce at Goethe University Frankfurt (Germany) and a member of the board of the efl – The Data Science Institute board. His research interests include electronic commerce, online marketing, marketing analytics, machine learning and the economic impact of more online consumer privacy. With a background in software development at SAP and as the co-founder of Marini Systems, Professor Skiera is a seasoned professional at the intersection of information systems and marketing. He has contributed significantly to research and mentoring the next generation of scholars.

Prof. Stefan Bender

Stefan Bender is Head of the Data and Service Center of the Deutsche Bundesbank and – since 2018 - Honorary Professor at the School of Social Sciences, University Mannheim. With his position at Deutsche Bundesbank he is chair of INEXDA (the Granular Data Network) and a member of the German Data Forum (https://www.konsortswd.de/en/). Before joining the Deutsche Bundesbank, Stefan was head of the Research Data Center (RDC) of the Federal Employment Agency at the Institute for Employment Research (IAB), where he has internationally established a research data center including access to IAB data in the US (for example Berkeley, Harvard). His research interests are data access, data quality, merging administrative, survey data and/or big data, record linkage, and establishment data. He has published over 100 articles in journals, including the American Economic Review and the Quarterly Journal of Economics.

Dr. Andreas Totok

Dr. Andreas Totok has been working with data integration and analysis applications for 25 years and heads the Enterprise Information Management division at Finanz Informatik Solutions Plus (FI-SP). In this role, he advises banks and insurance companies in the Sparkasse Finance Group on strategic IT issues and is responsible for implementation projects in the areas of corporate and risk controlling, as well as regulatory reporting. Dr. Totok also headed the Competence Center for Artificial Intelligence (AI) of the financial information technology group from 2019 to 2021. This examined how savings banks and network partners can benefit from the use of AI. He is currently responsible for the coordination office for the use of artificial intelligence within the FI group of companies.

Prof. Dr. Frauke Kreuter

Professor Frauke Kreuter holds the Chair of Statistics and Data Science at LMU Munich, Germany and the University of Maryland, USA; she is Co-director of the Social Data Science Center (SoDa) and faculty member in the Joint Program in Survey Methodology (JPSM). She is an elected fellow of the American Statistical Association and received the Warren Mitofsky Innovators Award of the American Association for Public Opinion Research in 2020. Professor Kreuter is also a driving force behind initiatives like the International Program for Survey and Data Science (IPSDS) and the Coleridge Initiative. Additionally, she co-founded the German language podcast Dig Deep.

Prof. Dr. Daniel Ringel

Daniel Ringel is an Assistant Professor at Kenan-Flagler Business School of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA, and an alumnus of the efl – The Data Science Institute. His research sits at the crossroads of data-driven marketing, data science, and artificial intelligence. Dr. Ringel exploits the capabilities of machine learning and generative artificial intelligence to develop new methodologies and analytical approaches that enable organizations to effectively navigate and capitalize on the information flood characteristic of modern society. He seeks to unearth and interpret meaningful patterns and relationships in unstructured data among various entities—from concrete subjects like consumers, firms, brands, and products to abstract concepts such as words and images—in unstructured data. By integrating disparate fields of study, such as computer science and business, Dr. Ringel fosters collaborations and synergies toward the shared objective of delivering tangible insights and generating transformative implications.

Prof. Dr. Ivan Habernal

Ivan Habernal holds a W2 Professorship for Natural Language Processing at Paderborn University, Germany. His current research areas include privacy-preserving NLP, legal NLP, and explainable and trustworthy models. His research track spans argument mining and computational argumentation, crowdsourcing, large-scale corpora, serious games, sentiment and sarcasm on social media, and the semantic web.

Prof. Dr. Thomas Höppner

Prof. Dr. Thomas Höppner is a competition lawyer and partner at law firm Hausfeld, based in Berlin. He has been involved in some of the most high-profile landmark competition cases relating to technological advancements by companies like Alphabet, Apple, Amazon and Microsoft. Advising multiple companies and associations affected by digital gatekeepers, he is recognized as a thought leader in disputes relating to the digital economy, including AI.

Gabriela Alves Werb is a Data Science Expert at the Deutsche Bundesbank and a Professor of Business Information Systems at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences.
