2008 November 10 (New Date!)

IT offshore outsourcing is gaining momentum in Germany. In particular, financial service providers use this opportunity to save costs and gain business flexibility. The goal of the case at hand was to investigate the factors that led to success in a large software reengineering project lasting about four years, involving the operations of one bank (the client) in Germany and an IT service provider located in India. Managing such projects is still a very challenging endeavor, given the high failure rates of IT projects in general and taking into account the special circumstances of offshoring to a globally distributed work force in particular.

The case study (with 31 expert interviews so far) that is still being conducted investigates mechanisms of project control and psychological contracts that were established between client and vendor personnel. This jour fixe presentation will focus on the success factors that were identified and will present a process model of the evolution of this successfully completed offshoring project.
